WHY CAN'T YOU UNDERSTAND: Our interview with America's finest new band, Buffalo Clover!

Photo: We will be bringing you an interview with America's finest new garage/soul/rock 'n' roll band Buffalo Clover later on today! Watch this space! AB Records

PART 1 - "THE INTERVIEW"

1 - What is your earliest musical memory and what pushed you towards perusing a career in the music business?

"Hearing the ice cream truck. I mean, the driver, I figure that guy was probably once a musician. He probably went through a faze, quit school and moved to Nashville, started vomiting at open mics and dive bars just hoping to vomit on the right person, so he could pursue his dream of being in all the biggest soda ads. Now he's waiting to get a call from his new manager to strait up mug him for all he's worth and leave him in the rotten ditch…yeah, that sounds like a good life right? if all else fails, you can eat all the ice cream you want!"

2 - Had you been involved in any other bands or musical ventures before Buffalo Clover?

"I was the lead finger pointer in a band called Secret Hamshake."

3 - How did Buffalo Clover begin?

"The earth was with out form, and darkness fell upon the face of the deep, well, that's one story..."

4 - Where did the name Buffalo Clover come from?

"We were gonna call it Soul Patch, but the domain name was already taken. My Great Aunt Hazel and I were having a conversation on the phone about some weed that was takin' over her yard called trifolium stoloniferum. It was Latin and didn't really have much of a ring to it, so I did a quick translation and the rest is history. The crazy thing is, my Aunt had been dead for ten years!"

5 - How would you describe the sound of Buffalo Clover?

"I've never actually heard it, but my friend's brother told me it's pretty good."

6 - Margo, before the band what was it that drew you to Nashville?

"Initially, I wanted to move to New York, Los Angeles or Rome, but I had a cousin living here at the time. I came down summer of 2003 and we went on a rampage. Downtown Broadway was a little different back then. We were hangin' out with a seedy crowd at the time, in places, some of which, aren't even around anymore-  The Pub of 'Love', Bobby's Idle Hour, Windows On the Cumberland. We were experimenting in some pretty heavy stuff back in those days. White blotters, mushroom tea, mescaline…I wrecked my car the first week I arrived and I was living in Antioch of all places. Held up in my third floor apartment, listening to early Bob Dylan records. I was doin' blow with the Russian mafia and eating caviar… Anyway, it definitely wasn't music that brought me here, but it will be music that leads me away."

7 - What influenced your latest record, 'Test Your Love'?

"Failure, death, lipstick on cigarettes, flickering neon signs in all night laundry mats, abandoned phone booths, sinkholes, collapsing stars, broken governments, marriage, sidewalks, body odour, cheap wine, trash cans."

8 - One of the standout tracks from this record is 'Why Can't You Understand' - an upbeat number that seems to have hints of funk about it. What influenced this song and what is it about?

"I'm not sure, Matt wrote that one, but I'm guessing it would have something to do with broken vows and motorcycles."

9 - Margo, you have worked on a couple of projects with Brittany from Alabama Shakes. How did this come about?

"We met a long time ago in dusty cock fighting ring near Juarez. She'd been beat up pretty bad in a car crash and I was coming off of speed. We drank wine in a cantina and sang karaoke with a man who had a glass eye. So, yeah, you could say I've worked with her. Once you've been through something like that, you're always friends."

10 - You've also shared stages with the likes of The Flaming Lips and legendary sax player Bobby Keys. How did it feel sharing the stage with legends such as these?

"Who said that? Sounds like a lie. I did in-fact share a stage with Tammy Why Not, Sea Sick Bill and Eric Church."

11 - Do you have any 'rituals' before you go on stage?

"Jeremy likes to cross dress and do Sudoku, I prefer staring at a picture of Donald Trump for an hour without blinking."

12 - Any live dates coming up?

"A few live ones and a bunch of dead ones."

13 - Any new songs in the pipeline?

"Yes, in fact for our album release show we will be playing all new songs that are NOT on the record, and we will be recording a live album on 2 inch tape that night to be given away online."

14 - When can fans expect the next official release?

"November 14th, 2013 at The Five Spot in East Nashville."

15 - Who would be your dream collaboration?

"Jim Skinner, Mark Fredson, Johnny Walker (red and black), Domino Joe (I don't actually know anyone by that name, but I like it), and Mitch Jones."

16 - Who would be in your dream super group?

YOU CAN'T GO ON, YOU GO ON: Our interview with alternative trio, Last Of The Light Brigade!

Part 1 - "THE INTERVIEW"

1 - What was your earliest musical memory and what inspired you towards persuing a career in music?

"Attempting to sing along to 'What Became of the Broken Hearted' in a car. Probably about three. Still love that song. My dad bought me my first guitar for my 13th birthday and I listened to 'What's the Story Morning Glory?' for the first time. That's where it all began."

2 - Had you been involved with any other bands prior to Last Of The Light Brigade?

"Not really, in some form it's always been LOTLB. Don't think I could ever be in another band to be honest, that's probably why our stuff seems quite diverse, just however I'm feeling!"

3 - How did Last Of The Light Brigade begin?

"Well it all began at School just under a different moniker. We played out first gig at fourteen."

4 - Where did the name Last Of The Light Brigade come from?

"A very late night discussion with two good friends of mine. We were talking about how romanticised The Charge of the Light Brigade has become. Typical British really. it just clicked."

5 - How would you describe the sound of Last Of The Light Brigade?

"That's quite tough as it can vary. I'd be more than happy for anybody to help me out on that one!"

6 - You're a fairly young band right now but have already had acclaim from the likes of Janice Long and Wilko Johnson. How does this feel and did this acclaim have a boost in your career?

"Yeah definitely, supporting Wilko was great. One of our best gigs I think. It's great to be able to say we were the last band ever to support him too… (I think)."

7 - Your latest single, 'You Can't Go On, You Go On', was out just last month. What is this song about and what influenced the song?

"It's about a young lady struggling to adapt to working life. with a twist obviously. Very Morrissey I suppose."

8 - Who would be your dream collaboration?

"Shirley Bassey."

9 - Any new songs in the pipeline?

"Tons!"

10 - When can fans be expecting a new single, EP or album?

"We will be releasing new material at the end of the year, hopefully Christmas time. Don't worry though it won't be a Christmas song!"

11 - Any live dates coming up?

"Yep, we got a ton coming actually which you can find out about on our website or facebook page. Really looking forward to it.

YOU CAN'T HANDLE THE PACE: Our interview with resident singer at The Feathers Hotel, Sarah Beatrice!

PART 1 - THE 'INTERVIEW'

1 - What was your first musical memory and what pushed you towards perusing a career in the record industry?
"I have always had a musical background: my mum loves Cliff Richard and Michael Jackson my dad, Neal Diamond and the Beatles but my first performance with music was at high school, with the choir in a production of IToku, it was about the history of the African slave trade. Performing with the choir inspired me. IToku was my first performance in year seven; I was so inspired by the power of the choir. I then knew this was my future.  The artist that most inspires me is Lady Gaga, she is amazing and inspires me to be myself (Born this Way) and be a great performer in and out of the studio."

2 - Had you been involved with any other bands prior to becoming a solo artist as Sarah Beatrice?

"No, unfortunately I have never been in a band. I support bands around Liverpool and the UK on social networking sites. I am involved in the Liverpool music scene and I am hoping to be in a band when I am at university."

3 - Why did you choose to become a solo artist instead of forming a band?

"I have never had the opportunity to be in a band but I love performing as a soloist as I can express my own music and fashion."

4 - How would you describe the sound of Sarah Beatrice?

"My sound is quirky and unique, just like me and I love to try new things with my vocals and guitar to make my music different. I would describe my sound as pop."

5 - You are currently the resident singer at The Feathers Hotel. How did this come about?

"My sister is the room’s manager at The Feathers Hotel and they needed a singer for functions. I have sung at the Grand National and Chester Races through working at the hotel. At The Feathers Hotel I am also a housekeeper, not the nicest job in the city centre on a Sunday morning."

6 - Who would be your dream collaboration?

"Me and Lady Gaga, even just to meet Lady Gaga would be a dream come true, for a Little Monster like me."

7 - Any new songs in the pipeline?

"Yes I have written two more songs since my EP was released on Soundcloud. They are called "Sweep Up" and the other one is called "Moments Like This". "Moments Like This" was written when I was at V Festival, the song is about taking in the music and the beauty of the crowd and never letting them memories go. I am hoping to record them soon."

8 - When can fans be expecting a new single, EP or album?

"I am hoping to release "Moments Like This" by the end of the year."

9 - Any live dates coming up?

"Yes, I have The Vintage & Music Festival coming up on the 28th September at The Bluecoat Chambers in Liverpool City Centre. It’s an all-day event starting at 10am with the country's very best Vintage Clothes, Retro Fashion, Accessories, Jewellery, Sunglasses and much, much more!"

10 - Who would be in your dream super group?

"My dream super group would be Jimi Hendrix, Nick Mason (Pink Floyd), Beyoncé, Lady Gaga, and Chris Novoselic (Nirvana)."
